Pancake Breakfast & Free Flights for Kids – Saturday!

Pancakes & Kids – Both Flying! Saturday, October 15th

For the final time this year the EAA240 hangar at New Garden Airport, Toughkenamon PA will see pancakes flying off the grill, and kids taking flight from the airport runway!

EAA Chapter 240’s Increasingly Famous Pancake Breakfasts are being served from 8am to noon, Saturday October 15th. Our freshly cooked pancakes, eggs, sausage and potato breakfasts are still just $8, including coffee and OJ. All funds raised go to the Chapter Flight Training Scholarship funding for 2023 – a great cause as we look to promote and sponsor aviation amongst local youth (EAA240 is a not-for-profit organization).

Weather and flight restrictions permitting, we’ll also be offering Free Flights For Kids – as part of the national EAA Young Eagles program. We at EAA240 have flown over 100 kids so far this year, providing a unique flight experience and bringing smiles to many faces!

Fly-In or drive-In, join us Saturday, October 15th for a fun family morning of aviation and good foods, amongst good company! We’ll be looking for you! Please share this invitation with your family, friends and colleagues.

Pancakes & Kids Take Off!

Pancakes & Kids – both flying!
A great morning of aviation and good foods!

Pancakes flew off the griddle while kids took to the air Saturday as the Chapter held a morning of aviation, good foods and even better company!

Thirty nine kids took to the skies, enjoying their first flight and including a Scouts troop who each gained an aviation merit badge thanks to EAA240! The ramp was busy throughout and with just three planes/pilots we didn’t complete until early afternoon.

We had a busy morning at the Chapter hangar and our breakfasts continue to attract many locals and fly-ins resulting in a steady flow of breakfasters eager for our great foods and hangar-breakfast experience. We served over 200 breakfasts – our best turnout in 2022 – and feedback was very positive as we continue to refine our food offerings (new potato product). Also, for this event, we’d purposefully and proactively invited the Chester Health Inspector to visit with us, view our food procedures and practices and to offer advice and counsel on all we do. We came away with a very positive report.

Our main purpose in all of this is to promote general aviation, the Chapter, and to raise funds to aid and maintain our operations. And this we did, with a solid income for breakfasts but also over $150 in generous donations from our supportive public.

None of this would be possible without the engagement and support of our amazing band of volunteers, who brought about the success of the day. Our thanks to:

Fall Calling!

Fall Calling! Your contribution, engagement and support
As we begin to plan our Chapter Fall Programs of Fly-Outs, fund-raising Breakfasts, flights for kids, our membership gatherings with invited speakers and much more we turn to the membership for help, for support, for engagement – for volunteering. We have ambitions that cannot be achieved without these inputs from the membership. As you see our calls for help, please consider responding, joining the team, helping where you can. It makes a big difference, as ‘more hands make for light work’. It’s fun too!

We have just two Pancake Breakfast fund-raising events remaining this year. These are fun events and we’ve grown a large following amongst our local supporters who enjoy our food and our company. Look-out for our emails and offer to join the team to help with set-up on Friday, or the Breakfast on Saturday.

TFR’s and weather have greatly impacted the number of Fly-Outs we’ve accomplished so far this year. But we’re still trying! Pilots/Plane Owners – we always need you and will be appreciative of you offering to ferry fellow members to the chosen destinations that the Chapter Events Team have organized for us. Please join us.

Similarly, TFR’s and challenging weather have forced cancellation of several of our Young Eagles – Free Flights for Kids events so far this year. We have at least two planned for the Fall, on our Breakfast dates. We need help with the Ground Crew and with additional pilots/planes. Please look our for those emails and sign-up, join the team and – again – have fun providing grateful kids with a positive aviation experience.

Other than our amazing members, our greatest asset is our Hangar/Meeting Room, both of much need some TLC this Fall & Winter. We’ll be forming Hangar Work Parties to work on several projects and will need particular skills which we know exist amongst our membership. Join us please, as we work to maintain our fabulous facility and keep it I great shape.

To our regular volunteers, Breakfasteers, pilots, events team members and to all those who have stepped-up this year – congratulations, thanks, we greatly valued your input and enjoyed your company!

So, over to you. Look out for our calls for your contribution, and volunteering where and when you can to keep this amazing Chapter moving forward and upward.

A Fun Day! PB & YE’s – May 21st

EAA240 Volunteers shine!

No flight restrictions, a beautiful day, a great breakfast, hungry breakfasters, kids and families looking for their first plane ride……a magical combination.

EAA240 volunteers made all this happen for our local kids, and our family breakfasters who have returned for our breakfasts in large numbers, plus several fly-in’s who all joined us yesterday. We fed, we flew and we provided a great GA and local-airport experience for a lot of folks.

Our ‘Increasingly Famous’ Pancake Breakfast was complemented by a beautiful day and no flight restrictions-yeh! Young Eagle Flights finally happened, resulting in 22 smiling faces! Many of those future aviators left excitedly telling mom and dad how they piloted the airplane, spoke on the radio and more. New Garden Flying Field was really busy with aircraft operations happening on both sides of the runway, with Brandywine Soaring Association offering Young Eagle glider rides on one side, and EAA Chapter 240 flew on the other. A great team effort.

Meanwhile, Pancake Breakfasts were being served at a fast rate up at the Chapter hangar, where we heard tales of kids flight experiences and received the thanks of grateful parents. We served 166 breakfasts, got a lot of compliments for our food and service, and it generated generous donations for our Chapter operations.

Congratulations to our many volunteers who planned, prepared and executed the range of event activities; to the pilots, ground crew, food preparers, cooks, washer-uppers and hangar space restorers – all who contributed to the success of the day. Well done all! It was a fun day, with EAA240 at its best.

Our next Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagles Event is Saturday, June 18. Come join in! More pilots, planes, ground crew, food preparers, cooks etc are most welcome to join the team and the fun, supporting our future aviators and our local and loyal followers.
