What is a fly-out?

At EAA Chapter 240, we schedule two fly-outs each month. Pilots volunteer their aircraft, fuel, and time to fly to various destinations for a nice meal or maybe to visit a museum, caverns, or any other points of interest. Many destinations are in the tri-state area, but we have also ventured to North Carolina, New York, and Connecticut.

When seats are available, we offer those empty seats to chapter members and others interested in aviation to fly with us. Pilots will sometimes limit the number of passengers based on weight limits for their aircraft. Flights are announced and listed below. All passengers must reply to the emails with their weight and their interest in attending. A hangar meeting time is published, and a seat assignment process will take place. If a shortage of airplanes occurs, preference will be given to chapter members, order of registration, and weight factors. We do our best to ensure everyone can join a fly-out.

Mark your calendars and join us for some fun and adventure!

Always with safety in mind, these flights will proceed if the weather is acceptable and all decisions are made by the pilot-in-command. Occasionally, the destination may be changed due to weather or other factors.

Members are invited to join in the regular Chapter Fly-Outs, where we plan to have flights to destinations of interest, or food, or both! The Chapter will email the membership giving notice of the flight plan, seeking plane-owners sign-up, and encouraging members to register for the event. Further updates are provided by emails, messaging, and website updates. Chapter member plane-owners offer rides to fellow members. We often have four to six aircraft in our fleet.

Flight Leaders are assigned to organize the event, make the required restaurant or museum bookings etc. The Flight Leader will determine weather conditions and may opt for an alternative destination on the selected day. The goal is to fly/drive SOMEWHERE on each scheduled weekend, weather and TFRs permitting. We suggest you monitor emails and the website for updates – dates, destinations, and arrangements may change!
