Young Eagles Flights of Saturday April 23rd postponed. Changes to our weekend program
With the President at home in Wilmington Delaware this weekend, the Secret Service have imposed flight restrictions across the area. This means that our Pancake Breakfast is on, beginning 8am Saturday (and serving ’til noon-ish), but that our planned Young Eagles flights have to be postponed.
Disappointing for sure. We’ll look for another date, and our next scheduled Young Eagles flights is Saturday, May 21st. We’ll keep the web site updated (here) and issue eMail notices to reconfirm dates/times. We hope to see kids at a future EAA240 flying event, we’re ready to share the experience of flying!
Meanwhile, join us for the best Airport Pancake Breakfast in the region on Saturday morning (23rd), starting at 8am, serving until noon-ish. Come for breakfast, see the aircraft under construction, visit the unique airport that is New Garden Flying Field N57.
What’s Next? Member Programs and Workshops for 2022
Happy New Year, and hopefully this finds you safe and well in these challenging times, as the virus impact has put our January membership activities on-hold – briefly, we hope!
Looking ahead to this new year we’re planning a range of member workshops and programs, in addition to our normally scheduled Monthly Membership Meetings (resuming in February), Saturday-Morning-at-the-Hangar events, twice monthly Fly-Outs and, of course, Young Eagles Flights. Our Pancake Breakfast fund-raising event dates are already set and are in the Chapter Events Calendar.
Specific workshops and programs we’re looking to arrange and schedule include:
~ Welding for Beginners – we’ve offered this twice in recent years and it attracted a lot of interest. We may hold two sessions this year, if demand is as per previous years. There will be a fee for materials etc.
~ ForeFlight in the Cockpit – demonstration and open discussion of Firelight experiences, best practices, tips, hints and more.
~ Building Experiences – several of our own Chapter members, and recent project builders, and our EAA Tech Counsellors, will be available together to share their experiences, advice and insights and just what’s it’s like to take on an aircraft building project. Get your questions answered!
~ FAAST Team Safety Programs & Presentations – relevant programs from the local FAA team, hosted by EAA240, open to the public
~ Airport Updates – airport operations, enhancements and maintenance shop updates from airport management and the local team
~ Flight School Updates – learn about the newly extended fleet and training operations from the owner/manager and team
These programs are being actively planned – many for Saturday’s – as part of the Chapter activities for the new year and will be offered to the 2022 EAA240 membership.

EAA240 members : our fund raising Pancake Breakfasts resume Saturday, September 11th as we once again offer a delicious, great value breakfast to our drive-in and fly-in customers and our membership base and families.
We’re offering free flights for kids too, through the Chapter Young Eagles program, giving kids an aviation experience they won’t long forget.
As always, we’ll need help to make all this happen – we’ll need your help.
We need two volunteer teams; preparing and cooking breakfasts plus our flight team down at the FBO ramp.

Chapter Events & Happenings A Successful Day for the Chapter – Saturday, October 19th 2019
Beautiful weather brought out many to our two Chapter events yesterday.
If you and your family/friends joined us (as we’d asked) and enjoyed a great EAA240 Pancake Breakfast – thank you!
We served 125 breakfasts, a good way to end the season, with many smiling faces and attracting many compliments. And thanks of course to the strong team of EAA240 volunteers who on Friday and Saturday stepped up to make the breakfast event successful. A great team effort and fun for all those involved, securing a much-needed boost to our funds as we close out on the year’s fundraising activities.
Fifty five (!!) kids took to the air yesterday as the Chapter Young Eagles program completed it’s successful year, with many happy faces and thankful parents, all taking advantage of the fantastic weather. The EAA pilots and ground crew ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Special thanks to our pilots who donate their skills, expertise, time and aircraft to the cause. Much appreciated.

A Chapter member recorded her experience getting a friend into the cockpit of an aircraft at one of EAA240’s Young Eagles – Free Flights for Kids days.
“Through the Young Eagles program in partnership with @eaa240 I got my Little Sister (@bbbsdelaware) [Big Brothers Big Sisters, DE] in the cockpit to co-pilot her very first flight this summer! She later messaged her boyfriend who was away at camp, “Flew a plane today,” like a little badass ????✈️? At 14, it’s a wonderful age to get a teen up there and expand her horizons of what is possible to pursue as a young lady.
The Young Eagles program at New Garden Flying Field makes aviation extremely accessible to youth. EAA Young Eagles Program was created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program was launched in 1992, Volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 2 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries. Pilots at the event explained more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety before every flight.
After the flight, she received a certificate making her an official Young Eagle. Her name was also entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The Logbook is also accessible via www.youngeagles.org. In addition to the Certificate, she was given a flight Logbook with an access code for a complete free online Flight Training course offered by Sporty’s”.

Perfect flying weather and the drive for adventure and new experiences brought kids and families to the Chapter and airport this morning.
Over 100 of our ‘Increasingly Famous’ Pancake Breakfasts were served and enjoyed at the Chapter Hangar, cooked and served by the EAA240 team.
Plus, it was ‘Thumbs-Up’ all-round as EAA240 and Brandywine Soaring pilots and ground crews gave 31 kids a fun airplane or glider ride but also some insights on how the aircraft operates. Through their exposure to the flight we hopefully sparked some aviation interest and gave rise to some budding future pilots! From the smiles of the kids I think we were successful!
Many thanks to today’s EAA240 and BSA teams for dedicating their time, expertise, aircraft, cooking skills and for creating a special day for so many of our dining guests, Young Eagle kids and their families. Thumbs-up!
