The family of long-time Chapter member Reggie Thompson, who passed away on May 21st, 2026, assembled at the Chapter hangar Saturday, September 20th and, led by Reggie’s wife Beverley, they…

A positive and fun day for the Chapter and for the volunteers whose hard-work ensured it was successful, with teamwork from the three YE pilots and their ground-crew, and from the Breakfast crew, pictured above.
Our pilots – Bud, John and Bob – brought smiles to the faces of 27 Young Eagles. A local TFR brought restrictions but we were able to fly using special codes arranged by Bud, working with the FAA.
Disappointingly, we were not able to fly all the kids due to only three available aircraft and also having to cancel flying at noon due to increasing cross-winds. With one or two more volunteer aircraft we could have completed the groups of waiting youngsters earlier.
Meanwhile, at the Chapter hangar, feedback on the breakfast service and foods was positive, and the volunteer team did an exceptional job and had fun too! We certainly had the capacity to serve more breakfasts but the disappointing turnout of the Chapter members to enjoy a breakfast with us continues to be of concern.
We have one more Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagles event scheduled, for Saturday, September 23rd. Click here to add this date to your calendar, and to remind you to volunteer to join the team, or to fly Young Eagles.
Our collective thanks and appreciation for the entire volunteer team of Saturday June 17th. Well done EAA240 volunteers!
Oh, and we sold 10 mugs!

With so many new members joining the Chapter in recent months it seemed a good time to remind all of some of the key resources available. Chapter EAA240 has THREE…

Members attending the October Membership Meeting will recall I mentioned the use of the Chapter Hangar this weekend – for very special members event.
Sarah Gault and Thorne Harkin are getting married Saturday at the 240 Hangar, with a large group of guests, family and friends. We’ve worked to prepare the hangar facility for them this week as they will hold a rehearsal, and a catered-dinner for invited guests Friday evening at the hangar, and the main service will be Saturday.
On Saturday, buses will transport the wedding party to their late afternoon and evening celebrations in Wilmington.
Our congratulations to Thorne and Sarah!
At the hangar, we’re expecting chair deliveries this week, and the decorating of the hangar for the dinner and service. The two existing 240 member plane builds are aware and involved in the planning and preparations for this very special event.
NOTE to CHAPTER MEMBERS : Chapter activities at the hangar for Friday & Saturday are cancelled (please), with no member access to the hangar except for emergency needs, and with the Fly-Out Briefing occurring Saturday morning at the FBO and airport apron (please). Chapter members – please DO NOT PARK CARS at the Chapter hangar, instead use the airport parking lot. This will enable access for the wedding party and buses.
The Chapter Hangar will return to normal operations, access and parking from noon Sunday.
Thanks! Another very special EAA240 event in progress! Please let me know if you have any questions:

| Fall Calling! Your contribution, engagement and support |
![]() |
| As we begin to plan our Chapter Fall Programs of Fly-Outs, fund-raising Breakfasts, flights for kids, our membership gatherings with invited speakers and much more we turn to the membership for help, for support, for engagement – for volunteering. We have ambitions that cannot be achieved without these inputs from the membership. As you see our calls for help, please consider responding, joining the team, helping where you can. It makes a big difference, as ‘more hands make for light work’. It’s fun too! We have just two Pancake Breakfast fund-raising events remaining this year. These are fun events and we’ve grown a large following amongst our local supporters who enjoy our food and our company. Look-out for our emails and offer to join the team to help with set-up on Friday, or the Breakfast on Saturday. TFR’s and weather have greatly impacted the number of Fly-Outs we’ve accomplished so far this year. But we’re still trying! Pilots/Plane Owners – we always need you and will be appreciative of you offering to ferry fellow members to the chosen destinations that the Chapter Events Team have organized for us. Please join us. Similarly, TFR’s and challenging weather have forced cancellation of several of our Young Eagles – Free Flights for Kids events so far this year. We have at least two planned for the Fall, on our Breakfast dates. We need help with the Ground Crew and with additional pilots/planes. Please look our for those emails and sign-up, join the team and – again – have fun providing grateful kids with a positive aviation experience. Other than our amazing members, our greatest asset is our Hangar/Meeting Room, both of much need some TLC this Fall & Winter. We’ll be forming Hangar Work Parties to work on several projects and will need particular skills which we know exist amongst our membership. Join us please, as we work to maintain our fabulous facility and keep it I great shape. To our regular volunteers, Breakfasteers, pilots, events team members and to all those who have stepped-up this year – congratulations, thanks, we greatly valued your input and enjoyed your company! So, over to you. Look out for our calls for your contribution, and volunteering where and when you can to keep this amazing Chapter moving forward and upward. Monday, February 14, 2022 YOU CAN FLY N57 IN THE TFR (SORT OF) – GATEWAY AIRPORTs by Bob Huxster, member EAA Chapter 240. A few weeks ago, I was returning…
The Holly Run is ON!!!Everyone on Tangier Island who wishes to be vaccinated has been vaccinated so we will be making our annual pilgrimage to spread Christmas cheer on Tangier again this year December 5th with a snow date of the 12th! We understand that many of you have concerns about COVID so we do have some modified procedures for COVID safety this year. BREAKFAST @ W29: Since I really can’t leave the hangar door open for ventilation in December for breakfast, we are going to require that everyone who joins us for breakfast with Santa at Bay Bridge be vaccinated. We will not be checking cards. We trust you. For those of you who do not feel comfortable getting vaccinated or who are vaccinated but still don’t feel comfortable eating in an indoor group setting even with vaccinated people, feel free to meet us directly on Tangier. (You’ll need to bring your own holly.) LUNCH @ LORAINE’S: Everyone is welcome to join us for lunch. If you do not feel comfortable eating lunch indoors with people of mixed vaccination status, there is an outdoor area with picnic tables a few yards from Loraine’s at the mail boat dock. You will be able to order carry-out and take it there, to your plane, back home, or any place else you feel comfortable eating. CHRISTMAS CHURCH SERVICE: There will be a church service. Everyone is welcome. GENERAL UPDATE: Members of the organizing committee were on the island last week before the big storm hit. Everything was quite flooded even at low tide. Rising sea-level is continuing to create hardship on the island for an again population. Quite a few peple we have worked with over the years to organize the Holly Run have passed on or moved off of the island. The estimated population is now about 400 people. The rising water is also causing the islanders to park more and more stuff up on the airport ramp (the high point on the island) to keep it dry. This will unfortunately decrease our parking capacity. We will once again this year be raising money for the various funds that the church administers to help the widows and others on the island who need assistance to make it through Tangier’s harsh winters. Please plan to donate to help our our host community. More details to come. REGISTER HERE We look forward to seeing you on The Run! More information? helen@chesapeakesportpilot.com |
| Chapter Fly-Out Report – Flight for Lunch to Bay Bridge, Maryland |
![]() |
| Saturday morning’s weather caused a small delay and resulted in a couple aircraft cancelling, resulting in a shortage of available seats, and sadly we had to leave one member behind. Still, after waiting for the fog and clouds to lift, three aircraft with eight Chapter members took off towards Bay Bridge W29, arriving just 40 minutes later. The food at Hemingway’s Marina Restaurant was great and it took some effort to start the walk back towards the airport. After an uneventful flight back, the planes and passengers arrived at New Garden later in the afternoon. It was good to welcome pilots and passengers for participating in this event. Looking forward to seeing more of you at future events while we still have good weather. Have a destination you’d like to propose for our next Chapter Fly-Out? Please let us know.
