Airshow Report and Upcoming Events

EAA240 Members,

I would like to thank all those members that contributed and volunteered to help make last weekend’s Pancake Breakfast and N57 Airshow Hot Dog sales a big success! Many chapter members joined with family and friends to serve over 100 breakfast meals and over 800 hot dogs. The weather was hot except for a very strong passing thunderstorm but both events were well attended. Lots of families and some exciting flying and fireworks. Again, it would not have been possible without the volunteers giving their time and effort. It is very appreciated. I believe everyone had a great time!

Now an opportunity for members! We have some remaining items for sale at reduced prices just in time for summer cookouts during the Labor Day weekend. Halloween is also coming and bags of chips may be what you are looking for. All items are at the hangar and sales will be on the honor system. Money can be placed in the can next to the drink cooler or send a check to the chapter address (EAA Chapter 240, PO Box 240, Toughkenamon, PA 19374).

A cold and snowy evening proved to be no deterrent for a group of enthusiastic aviators, who had a great chat on decision making, sharing a good amount of personal stories in the process.

Even better, we were joined be Eric Sieracki, our local FAA Safety Team Program Manager, who provided all the attendees with WINGS credit for the event.

Due to the forecasted high winds on Saturday, we’re adjusting our fly-out plans! Join us Sunday, November 17th, for a flight to Cambridge, MD (KCGE). A popular destination for the chapter, the airport restaurant there had been closed for a while and has been recently reopened, with Carol’s Kitchen, a popular local restaurant moving in. Time to check it out! 

We’ll meet at the Chapter hangar at 8:30am for briefing and seat assignments, with a scheduled departure time of 9:00am. CGE is 78nm S of N57, which will take about 50 minutes of flight time.
The restaurant is open for breakfast only on Sundays, 8am to 1pm.

Pilots and passengers that have registered for Saturday, please re-register for the Sunday fly-out.

Pilots and planes are always needed. Pilots, please let us know how many seats and how much useful load you have available. Passengers, remember to include your weight and contact information.

For our November Membership Meeting in addition to voting for Board Members for the 2025/27 period we’re holding our Annual FlyMart, where you can bring along your aviation no-longer-needed-but-someone-else-might-find-a-use-for items and sell them, or donate them to another member. There may be items that will interest you too!

We’ll have the tables available in the main hangar space for items to be displayed, and where the bartering can happen! No fee’s but donations to Chapter funds are welcomed.

We’ll have coffee and donuts to oil the process for all.

No limits on the items but they must be aviation related, and unsold/donated items must be removed at the end of the meeting. No, we don’t want them either!

Search your toolboxes, hangar drawers, lockers and cabinets and bring your once-valued treasures along for reuse.

Cancelling Young Eagle Flights – Saturday, September 28th

Sadly, low cloud ceilings and rain will prevent us offering safe flights for kids tomorrow and we’re cancelling this aspect of our morning at EAA Chapter 240.

Our ‘Increasingly Famous’ Pancake Breakfast is still on however and we look forward to serving our very special breakfast from 8am. Bring the family, see you there!

Brief Business Update

~ Three new members joined during June – welcome!
~ Air Conditioning install completed and working well
~ Brian Wheeler welcomed as new Facilities Manager
~ Flew 13 Young Eagles in June
~ Pancake Breakfast brought in $848, serving 140 delicious breakfasts
~ Air Show Hot Dog sale brought in a whopping $3,791, serving 600 delicious Hot Dogs. Well done Hot Dog team!
~ Strong overall financials continue, balance of $19,451
~ Board is considering restarting Flight Training Scholarships following strong overall balance plus donation from EAA National
~ EAA National demoted the Chapter to ‘Silver’ achievement level in the Chapter Recognition program as we didn’t send anyone to the National Leadership Training in 2023. EAA240 Board Members met with National leadership to contest and protest this outcome, without result. Apparently, operating a highly successful Chapter despite the considerable and repeated restrictions of TFR’s has no bearing on National’s assessment. More information here.
