May Cook-Out & Membership Meeting

Membership Meeting & Cook-Out, with Guest Speaker

BIG changes to our regular monthly program. We’re dropping the Business Review we normally present, and instead will provide the business information to the membership via email and our Chapter web site. This means we can dedicate more time to our guest speakers! Yeh! Videos will be presented and we’re re-introducing the fun 50/50 drawing at each meeting. We’re aiming for a more relaxed, informal and more fun time.

AND, for Monday May 1st, we’re starting with a Cook-Out at 6pm and the Chapter Hangar. We ask you bring a side dish or dessert item or a $5 donation. We’ll supply a chicken dinner and soft drinks. 

Our new format Monthly Meeting commences after we’ve cleaned up, around 7pm.

 We have a special topic and TWO guest speakers for the April meeting:

Aviation expands our horizons and allows us to visit new places. With a passport and a bit of preparation, you can expand that your flying world across international borders too! 
Join us as Michael Bush and Michael Cutler explain the “ins and outs” of flying to other countries in North America and find out how you can experience the excitement of new places, faces, and airspaces!

EAA Chapter 240 announces Members Monthly Meeting

Monday, April 3rd, 2023

Gather at 6.30pm at the Chapter Hangar & Meeting Room for coffee, snacks, side-bars, viewing the members projects under construction, and hangar flying.

Monthly Meeting commences promptly at 7pm in the Chapter Meeting Room.

Guest Speaker and topic this month (flight schedule permitting):

EAA240 member Matt Chapman – Matt will present on his experiences as Captain flying 787’s trans-Atlantic for a national carrier, and doing something he said he would NEVER do (ask him!).
Those who have heard Matt present before will agree that we’re in for a lively, entertaining and information-packed program.

Meet Jana Leigh Sheaffer – Professional Wingwalker


Jana Leigh has traveled extensively, performing her daring wing-walking throughout the US. She began her career in early 2004 at the Flying Circus Airshow in Bealeton, VA when a friend took her there to see the show. She was captivated as she watched the agile wingwalker carefully maneuver himself across the wing of a 450 Stearman biplane. Her first reaction was “How can this be legal?” and then she thought to herself, “I want to do that!”. After the show, and out of curiosity, she asked if the Flying Circus was looking for another wingwalker. She was told that they were, in fact, looking for a female wingwalker, and if she was serious, to follow up with an audition. She was serious!

Join us Monday, March 6th to hear Jana Leigh’s stories and learn more about what it takes to make a career in this field. She might even try to convince you to join in, if you’re serious about it.

AGM 2022 – Report to Membership

Annual General Meeting
Report to Membership – November 2022

The Chapter membership gathered to hear from the attending Board Members on the overall Chapter status, the results of 2022 Chapter activities and to learn of the approach and plans for the coming year.

The Chapter By-laws required voting for three Executive Board positions. Member Bert Shipman had taken on the task of Nominations Chair to oversee the voting process. Bert reported the following at the meeting:

“Having received three nominations, one for Chapter President, one for Chapter Secretary and one for Chapter Membership Director and, having received no additional nominations up to the cut-off date of October 28th at 5pm, all three candidates are unopposed, and no voting is required tonight. Congratulations are in order to Mike Parry, President, to Bud Swenson, Secretary and to Paul Dolan, Chapter Membership Director”.

A copy of the Executive Board Members and Officers presentations on the challenges and accomplishments of ‘Restarting the Chapter’ can be found at the Chapter web site ‘Members Only’ area, covering the financials (now healthy), successful fund-raising, Young Eagles – 142 flown, member events (many, including fly-outs, tower visits, DANG visit and more), membership count – now 172, with 17 new members in 2022, Scholarship program resort, donations and plans for hangar upkeep. The Chapter is clearly well positioned for continued success in 2023.

Members viewed a video shown as part of the AGM capturing much of the activities of 2022, which can be viewed in the Chapter video’s area .

The guest speaker of the evening was Jon Martin, Aviation Director of the airport, with a review of the history and the sizable improvements and additions to airport facilities, capabilities and services. Hugely impressive, and very meaningful for all airport users, for Chapter members and for aviation in our region.

We also took time to celebrate member Tom Callahan’s very recent ‘FAA Wright Brothers – Master Pilot Award’ reflecting Tom’s 50 year contribution to aviation, and aviation safety.
