Chasing the Eclipse – Full Disc Aviation

Monday’s Membership Meeting opened with food, as we enjoyed a cook-out at the Chapter hangar. Our Membership Meeting that followed covered two topics – Member Rob Dant and VP Octavian presented on their separate adventures to get the optimum viewing of the recent eclipse – both successful! Maps and images showed their separate planning, changes that were required due to weather and full airport ramps and their eventual success in capturing the full eclipse.

Octavian then introduced our main speakers: Full Disc Aviation photographers Richard Souza and James Woodard presented on their organization, their techniques, their equipment and process to produce the amazing aviation images and accompanying stories that make up their web presence: https://www.fulldiscaviation.com/

VMC/IMC Session – Saturday – all welcome!

EAA240 IMC/VMC Club Meeting – Saturday, May 4th, 10am to noon
EAA240 Chapter Hangar

Sharing ideas, concepts and experiences in better flying

With the prospect of a TFR being imposed we’re planning another joint IMC & VMC Club session on this date, starting at 10am, to discus these questions and several more related to both VMC and IMC flying. All Chapter members – pilots and non-pilots – are invited to attend as we work to address questions like this, and to exchange and share flight experiences. The session includes the use of EAA National-provided scenarios and videos. Our past sessions have resulted in lively and helpful information exchanges. More information here.

We’ll keep it light and informal, over coffee and cookies.

I hope you can join us at the Chapter Hangar for the session led by Bob Huxster, and which is open to all Chapter members, pilots, student pilots and those with an interest in aviation.

Fly- Out Report – South Jersey Regional

What a beautiful day to go flying, after all!

Despite the low ceilings delaying our departure, four aircraft and seven chapter members arrived at South Jersey Regional Airport around noon. The staff was waiting for us and we were quickly seated, ready to enjoy our breakfast (err, lunch). With plenty of options to choose from, there were no duplicate orders. One of the menu options that stood out was the Jetlag Burger (pictured). It was delicious.
After our lunch we headed out to the Air Victory Museum. The staff there was very welcoming, and we got to take a look at their exhibits, some of which were quite unique. A new addition was the Aereon 26 lifting body prototype (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AEREON_26), nicknamed “the pumpkin seed”. Its history is definitely worth reading.

Overall, a great visit, with nice and warm weather. See you at the next one!
