An unexpected closure of the museum at our original destination (KGON) has forced us to select a different destination. But don’t worry! We’ve had a lot of interest for the original location, so we’re only postponing it until Sep 7th.
In the meantime, we’ve chosen N40 as the destination for this fly-out. A popular location for our members, it was impacted by a TFR last time we attempted it.
Join us Saturday, August 10th for this 45 minute trip to Sky Manor airport. Meet at the chapter hangar at 9am for flight brief and seat assignments, with a planned take-off time of 9:30am. Once there, we’ll have breakfast at the Sky Cafe before heading back to New Garden. For passengers only, there’s a winery within walking distance that might be worth checking out.
Weather might force us to move the fly-out to Sunday. Please provide a good contact number to reach you in case plans change.
Pilots and planes are needed! Pilots, when registering let us know how many seats you have available, and also available useful load. Passengers, please include your weight in your registration email: events@eaa240.org

It was a hot but beautiful day to fly!
Five aircraft with ten chapter members departed New Garden for the scenic flight to Cherry Ridge. The high temperatures prevented us from enjoying the view on the restaurant’s outdoor deck, but we were definitely happy to be inside, enjoying our breakfast in an air-conditioned area. A lot of aviation topics were discussed while the various menu offerings were sampled.
The flight back presented us with a couple areas of moderate to heavy rain showers which made for some quick decision making as we selected the best path around them. Overall, they didn’t delay us too much and the flight was uneventful, with all aircraft returning to New Garden before the rain arrived.
Thank you to all the pilots and passengers that made this fly-out a success!
Hopefully our next fly-out, scheduled for August 10th (Groton, CT) will also be TFR-free and met with good flying weather.

Our next EAA 240 Fly-out is Sunday, 14 July. Join us for a 1h 15min flight to Cherry Ridge Airport (N30) to check out the recently opened Betty Boop’s Airport Café. Featuring an air-conditioned interior and a new open deck (if the temperatures drop a little), it looks like a fun place for breakfast.

Meet at the chapter hangar at 09:00 for flight brief and seat assignments, with a scheduled departure time of 09:30. When signing up, please provide a good contact number in case plans change last minute.

As always, plans might change due to weather or TFRs. The flight lead may select a different destination if the initial one can’t be reached.

Brief Business Update
~ Three new members joined during June – welcome!
~ Air Conditioning install completed and working well
~ Brian Wheeler welcomed as new Facilities Manager
~ Flew 13 Young Eagles in June
~ Pancake Breakfast brought in $848, serving 140 delicious breakfasts
~ Air Show Hot Dog sale brought in a whopping $3,791, serving 600 delicious Hot Dogs. Well done Hot Dog team!
~ Strong overall financials continue, balance of $19,451
~ Board is considering restarting Flight Training Scholarships following strong overall balance plus donation from EAA National
~ EAA National demoted the Chapter to ‘Silver’ achievement level in the Chapter Recognition program as we didn’t send anyone to the National Leadership Training in 2023. EAA240 Board Members met with National leadership to contest and protest this outcome, without result. Apparently, operating a highly successful Chapter despite the considerable and repeated restrictions of TFR’s has no bearing on National’s assessment. More information here.

Dear Chapter240 Members,
Have you noticed that our wonderful Chapter 240 main hangar door has been looking a little shabby lately? The paint on the external steel brace has started to flake, and rust is starting to develop! We need to address this soon to avoid a larger problem later. To this end we are organizing a mid-week work party on Thursday 7/18 to attack the rust and flakes, to spray etching primer and to topcoat with rust-resistant paint. We will also be completing some work inside the door to finish insulating and cladding in preparation for the colder weather ahead.
We are experimenting with a mid-week work session to preserve the weekend for your aviating and family activities. If you can help, please sign-up for a work slot using the Sign-Up Genius link below. This will allow us to ensure we have enough tools and materials to work efficiently and complete our tasks before dark. There are a total of eight workers needed: Four inside the hangar and four outside. Rumour has it that pizza will be available (but no beer!… at least until the work is finished!) In the event of bad weather the outside project will be postponed as we can’t paint in the rain.

Tuesday’s Air Show was always a gamble. It involved major commitments by the Airport (performers, airport prep, parking, safety services and much more). The Chapter also opted to gamble. At the previous Air Show we served 400 Hot Dogs, running out of food in the late afternoon. We gambled this time on selling 600 Hot Dogs, a BIG step up, but needed more prep, additional equipment and a bigger volunteer team to make it happen.
The Air Show was a major success for the airport and township, with an estimated 4,000 attendees enjoying an afternoon of great flying, foods and entertainment. It was great to see the airport so busy, with major crowds enjoying a traditional airport air show. Congratulations and thanks to Jon Martin and his team, who organized and executed the event so well.
EAA240 was there, and our Hot Dog team worked through the day and evening to prepare, set-up, cook and serve the 600 Hot Dogs (with a bottle of water and bag of chips). It was hot, demanding work, with lines forming to get our food. We exhausted our food supplies – all 600 hot dogs – by 7:15pm. Which was good timing as by that point we were exhausted too!
Our food sales plus generous donations from our guests cleared more income for the Chapter than the past three Pancake Breakfasts combined, as they did last time too. But we also got a chance to meet with the local community, and had fun interactions with people and enjoyed the team working the Chapter is so capable of. A great day all-round!
The income from the Hot Dog sales plus the donations will fund a major part of the Chapter Flight Training Scholarships the Board has initiated for 2024, getting more kids into flight training and GA, a goal of the Chapter.
Special call-out to the EAA240 Hot Doggers Team 2024: Chuck Shipman, Lee Blazejewski, Ralph & Helen Dooley, Ken Hess, Jay Jacobs, Reagan Jacobs, Lynne Parry and with Dave McKenzie, Lisa Murray and Vance in close support. These folks made it happen for the Chapter, for our membership and for the student pilots who will benefit from their volunteered efforts.
