Crab Cakes on Tangier Island!

The weather forecast kept us on our toes until the last minute, but in the end three aircraft departed for Tangier Island Saturday morning, with one of our passengers being a 13 year old chapter member on his first ever fly-out.

After an uneventful flight, we arrived on Tangier Island and headed to Lorraine’s Seafood Restaurant to see what the wait times were going to be. At least 30 minutes, we were told. Armed with that bit of information, we put our names on the list and started a quick tour of the island. It was sad to see Fisherman’s Corner, the site of our last Tangier trip, still closed and empty – maybe they’ll find a way to reopen it in the near future.

We came back in about 35 minutes, finding out we still had to wait another 20 minutes or so. Lorraine’s was packed! After looking at the menus for a bit, we got seated and made our final meal choices – the crab cake sandwiches being the choice of most of us. They didn’t disappoint. Between them and plenty of iced tea to rehydrate ourselves after the long and hot afternoon, we spent a little bit of time at the restaurant before heading back to the airport for the flight home.

The flight home had us go around a couple isolated rain showers, including one that placed itself right between us and New Garden, forcing us to fly around it before lining up for our landings. All together, it was a great fly-out, to a popular chapter destination on a scenic route down the Chesapeake Bay.

Our next fly-out is only a week away, scheduled for Saturday, July 15th. We head to Gettysburg Regional Airport (W05) for a trip to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum, followed by lunch at the Dobbin House Tavern. Hopefully the weather and the President’s schedule will cooperate with us for this one. Watch out for the registration e-mails later in the week.
