DESCRIPTION:Join us for our IMC/VMC session on July 16 at 6:30pm. \nThe EAA VMC/ IMC Club provides a “hangar flying” experience organized around both fair weather and instrument flight\, in order to promote safety\, education\, and proficiency. \nEvery meeting consists of a scenario presentation and group discussion about unusual or interesting charts\, changed rules and procedures\, and member experiences.  We also have occasional guest speakers. \nThe scenarios we will discuss at this meeting include: (IMC) ‘Trim Trouble”‘\, uncommanded nose down trim\, and (VMC) ‘”Bumpy Final”‘\, strong turbulence at 300 ft agl on approach.. Both will raise questions about risk management and aeronautic decision making. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, April 26th at 10:00AM. We’ll be going to Bay Bridge (W29). It will be about a 1 mile walk to the restaurant (Libbey’s Coastal Kitchen – https://libbeyscoastalkitchen.com/)\, so bring clothing that will keep you warm. Sometimes they have someone with a golf cart available that can pick us up about half way there\, but we won’t know until the day of.\nThe restaurant opens at 11:00AM for brunch\, and the plan is to be there between 11 and noon. \nWe’ll meet at the chapter hangar at 9:30am for flight briefing and seat assignments\, with a scheduled departure time of 10:00AM.

Please let the Flight Leader know if you’ll be piloting a plane (open seats and max weight please)\, or coming along as a passenger (weight estimate please). Use the Register button to submit your information. Everyone\, please include your phone number and watch your email for last minute notifications since weather looks a bit iffy and the departure time might change.

SUMMARY:March Membership Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly chapter meeting! Gather at 6:30 pm at the Chapter Hangar & Meeting Room for coffee and snacks. The meeting will start at 7:00 pm in the Chapter Meeting Room. \nTopic of the meeting will be “Remembering D-Day and WWII through the Experiences of a Glider Pilot” with David Ripsom. \nVisitors & guests are welcome. We’ll be complete no later than 9:00 pm. \n— \n\nD-Day led to the Allied victory in WWII in Europe. 2\,876\,000 Allied troops were then amassed in southern England. The largest armada in history\, made up of more than 4\,000 American\, British\, and Canadian ships\, lay in wait. More than 13\,000 planes stood ready to deliver 23\,000 seasoned airborne troops behind enemy lines and dominate the skies. \nOver 1\,000 gliders of mostly wood and canvas with only metal frames departed for Normandy with thousands of the airborne troops. Like the varied outcomes for troops coming by sea or parachute\, gliders had a mixture of both high casualties and successful attacks on D-Day. Gliders were then prominent in several major battles over the next months\, including Operation Market Garden. \nThis presentation gives an overview of the role of gliders in WWII and shares the story and pictures of Flight Officer Theodore B. Ripsom from D-Day and other battles. David also recounts his own visits\, with pictures\, to the very same locations where his father and other glider pilots landed and fought. \nDavid is a graduate of Lafayette College and University of Virginia School of Law.  After 20 years of private practice in Wilmington\, he became General Counsel and then became President & CEO of Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited in Wilmington.  He remains active in the community\, just completing a two year term as President of the Catholic Charities Appeal for Philadelphia.
