Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation

Join us Saturday, June 1st for a trip to Gettysburg Regional Airport (W05), located ~70 miles west of N57! This fly out has a ½ day itinerary with an optional itinerary that follows.

The plan is to kick off our visit by attending the local EAA1041 chapter’s pancake breakfast. Breakfast will be followed by a relatively short courtesy car ride to visit the Gettysburg Museum of History.

After the museum tour, pilots & passengers will all need to decide if they want to extend the day by having lunch at Dobbin House Tavern, followed by a walk through the Gettysburg National Cemetery just across the street. For this extended itinerary, again, all pilots & passengers will need to work out how much of the day’s itinerary they will partake in. Pilots & passengers departing after the museum tour or lunch will be driven to the airport.

The courtesy car at W05 has been reserved.. Be sure to bring cash and to plan for multiple expenses. And as always, please be sure to include assisting pilots with the day’s expenses, thank you!

Meet at the EAA240 hangar at 8:00am.
Plan A: Wheels-Up 8:30am assuming NO TFR or NO bad weather.
Plan B: Depart 8:30am BY CAR if there’s a TFR or if flying is weathered-out. We may likely need drivers for the 2-hour drive!!

Notice of EAA240 Executive Board Meeting

The EAA240 Board will meet on this date at 6pm at the Chapter Hangar Meeting Room. Apologies for the late notice. Members are welcome to attend. We aim to close the session at 8pm.

As you know, the Executive Board sets the Chapter strategies, direction & priorities, reviews and approves expenses and major projects and sets the Event Schedule for the Chapter and its members.

Please let me know of any matters, suggestions, feedback you wish to bring to the attention of the Executive Board.

Membership Monthly Meeting – guests and visitors most welcome!

Monday, April 1st, 7pm – EAA240 Chapter Meeting Room, New Garden Airport

This is one presentation you should not miss! Gather at 6.30pm at the Chapter Hangar & Meeting Room for coffee, snacks, side-bars and hangar flying.

Monthly Meeting commences promptly at 7pm in the Chapter Meeting Room.

Guest Speaker and topic this month:

Space Suit Design Andrew Taylor started work at ILC Dover Delaware (!!) in 1996 as a Space Suit Engineer.

Most of his time is spent in the Space Suit Test Lab, testing advanced Space Suit designs, developing & testing new Space Suit materials, Certifying Space Suit Components for EVA, and providing Astronaut Space Suit Training. He is currently working on the Next Generation Space Suit Design for the Artemis Missions that will take Astronauts back to the Moon and on to Mars. More information on ILC Dover can be found here.

Andrew is also a Commercial and Instrument rated Private Pilot who has logged more than 3,400 hours of flight time over 22 years in various airplanes and currently owns a Cessna U206 Stationair.

Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation

Join us Saturday, March 16th for a trip to Hammonton Municipal Airport (N81) in Hammonton, NJ. A short 30 to 45 minute trip away (depending on your route), it’s a good opportunity to practice your Class B airspace and radio skills. Once there, we’ll have breakfast at the Apron Café before heading back to New Garden.

Meet at the EAA hangar at 8:30am for briefing and seat assignment, with a planned departure time of 9am. Rain/TFR day is Sunday, March 17th. Check your e-mails for any last-minute departure time changes if weather conditions require it.
Pilots, please let us know how many seats you have available when registering. Passengers, make sure you include your weight.

The Board compiled an update for the Chapter membership, summarizing the financial status, planned capital investments and upgrades to our Chapter facility, membership count and much more. Printed copies of the report were handed-out at the beginning of the March Membership Meeting this week. This replaces the presentations we have done in the past, ensuring that we can dedicate most of the Meeting time to guest presentations etc.

However, Members who did not attend the meeting can read or download the report at the ‘Members Only’ area of this web site.

As alway, the Board welcomes questions, suggestions and feedback on any topic of Chapter operations.

The Chapter flew to KGED Delaware Coastal Airport on Sunday, and, taking advantage of just prefect flying weather, we had six aircraft (including Dan’s Gyro) and thirteen lucky Chapter members in the fleet. The Delaware Aviation Museum staff greeted the group on landing and we were soon amongst the aircraft, cars and workshop of the museum.

Panchito was just emerging for her annual maintenance, sporting a new prop and looking just beautiful. Our hosts mentioned that she was now due for her annual polish-and-shine to get her ready for the new show season. Our thanks again to the Museum and staff for providing access and hosting our visit.

The Chapter group retreated to the Airport Arena’s Restuarant for a hearty lunch, served promptly with good foods. Aviation discussions ensued, before we headed to the flight line to prep for the flight home.

The continuing perfect and warming weather made for smooth flying and safe returns to our local airports. Another EAA240 Event accomplished! Our thanks to the pilots who offered rides on Sunday, much appreciated! MP

Join us Monday, March 4th for our first regular Monday meeting of the year! We are excited to have the Dover AFB ATC Team as our guest speakers for the night.

They will go through the various duties they perform, covering, among other things, USAF and Dover ATC Training, Civil Aircraft Operations and Emergency Operations and Response.

There will be time for Chapter members to ask any questions you might have to better in order to understand how they handle things and what should you do if you intend to land there, planned or not. So join us for this unique opportunity to talk to the people on the other end of the microphone at Dover AFB!

You can also renew your 2024 Membership at the meeting.

 Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation

Our next Chapter Fly-Out is to Delaware Coastal Airport and Museum and Chapter members are invited to join us!

Join us Sunday, March 3rd for a Chapter Fly-Out to Delaware Coastal Airport (KGED) for a visit of the Delaware Aviation Museum on the field! Following the museum tour, we will grab lunch at Arena’s at the Airport, before heading back to New Garden. Some of the museum’s exhibits are being prepared for the airshow season, so we might get a chance to see the inner workings of them. 

KGED is a ~45 minute flight (approx. 72nm) SSE from N57. Meet at the EAA240 hangar at 08:30am for seat assignments, flight check, restaurant details, with wheels-up at 09:00am, arriving around 09:45.   

We welcome pilots, planes, and hearty appetites!

Please register for this flight and let the Flight Leader know via email (events@EAA240.org) if you’ll be piloting a plane (let us know how many seats you have available) or coming along as a passenger. We need to provide the Museum with an estimate of the number of people attending by Friday, so please register before then if possible.
