It’s Election Time!

No, not those elections. We’re holding ours a day earlier – Monday, November 2rd, at 6pm, during our monthly membership meeting. As part of our Annual General Chapter Meeting agenda and as required by the Chapter By-Laws, two of our five Executive Board Positions are to be voted on by those present at the meeting

Our chapter will be holding elections for the positions of chapter President and chapter Secretary, who will be elected for a two year term.

Voting will be held as part of the Annual General Membership Meeting and overseen by Octavian Codreanu (Chapter Director of Communications), who will tally votes and announce results at the meeting, in compliance with the Chapter By-laws. Proxy votes are not permitted, you must be at the meeting to vote and your attendance at the November 2nd meeting is therefore important.

Now is the time for you, our chapter members, to get involved. If you’d like to nominate yourself or someone else (make sure they’re willing to accept the nomination first, though) for any of the board positions that are up for election this year, send an e-mail to elections@eaa240.org. The only condition is that the nominator and the nominee must be current chapter members. The last day for accepting nominations will be Saturday, October 31st at 5pm. Our elections coordinator will then prepare ballots with all the candidates and will distribute them to the members present at our November membership meeting.

So don’t delay – submit a nomination before the deadline, and mark your calendar for Monday, November 2nd.

We Took the Scenic Route!

Lincoln Park Fly-Out Report

With the rain and clouds staying to our south we were able to enjoy a great fly out north to Lincoln Park.  The airport is nestled along a hillside and tree cover with an extended threshold made for an interesting landing.

Lunch was excellent as we all sat outside along the runway and enjoyed the sun, the meal, and the runway traffic. From sampling the great food and the large crowd, it was clear that the Sunset Pub & Grill was a popular destination.

Departing Lincoln Park with full stomachs, we travelled east to the Hudson River and took in the New York City skyline down to the Statue of Liberty.  The weather supported great views of New York lined with skyscrapers, bridges, boats, central park, and “The Lady” of course!

We rounded New York to the south and began our scenic trip back to New Garden for a final approach to a great flying day!

Our next events are a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, October 24th, followed by a fly-out to Grimes Airfield (8N1) on Sunday, October 25th for their annual Pumpkin Fly-In. Mark your calendars!

October Membership Meeting – Flying Without an Engine

Monday, October 5th, 7pm

Join us Monday, October 5th for our first proper meeting after the summer break. We’ll gather at the hangar around 6pm for socializing and hangar flying, before kicking off the actual meeting at 7pm. We’ll be throwing hot dogs on the grill, and we still have chips to go with them. Stop by and grab some chow!

Following a brief chapter update, where we’ll discuss what’s been happening since the last time we got together, we’ll hand over the controls to the main feature of the evening.

This month’s EAA240 guest speaker is Juris Milestone, Secretary of the Board of Brandywine Soaring Association. As a member and glider pilot, Juris will give a presentation about the BSA, covering topics like gliding operations, thermaling, soaring cross-country, ridge soaring, etc. As a tow pilot, Juris will also discuss BSA’s towing operations and invites us to bring our insights, questions, and experiences. Finally, he will finish with more information about BSA membership, introductory flights, ab initio, and add-on training.

Hope to see you all Monday evening! As always, family, friends and guests are welcome!
