Join us Saturday, September 27th for an end of summer season coast line fly out for a Cape May (KWWD) breakfast. We plan to break bread at the Flight Deck Diner and then visit the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum located at the airport.
Cape May is an approximate 40 minute flight SE. Admission price to the museum is $16.00.
Pilots and passengers meet at the EAA 240 hangar at 0830. Wheels up at 0900.

Hazards and Preventive Measures to Reduce Risks while Flying at Night

During this 2 hour presentation we will be discussing the why night-flying has always been, and continues to be, more dangerous than flying during the day. This is, for the most part, because of a lack of visual cues and our vulnerability as humans to be affected by illusions. Historical accident data indicates that not only does the risk of specific types of accidents increase at night (in the form of dark-night takeoffs, inadvertent VFR-into-IMC, CFIT, black-hole illusion), but also that these accidents are usually fatal. In this presentation, you will gain a thorough understanding of the hazards that cause accidents during night operations and receive practical preventative measures you can immediately apply to keep you safer when the lights go out. Don’t miss this critical and informative presentation for pilots of all skill levels!

The Chapter 240 annual deck party held Sept 2nd had over 30 participants enjoying hot dogs and numerous side dishes including salads and desserts. Socializing continued well into the night! A great time was had by all.
On Sunday, we continued our flyout tradition with a short flight to York, PA. After morning rain showers we launched just as the skies were clearing into beautiful weather for a nice flight to York. Three aircraft held a total of nine aviation minded members including three fledgling aviators who got the opportunity to try their skills at flying the airplanes at lower altitudes. A short crew car ride to the Anchor Down Crabhouse led to a tremendous meal of fresh seafood including crab cakes and shrimp. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals.
The return flight included a few flyovers of the Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square seeing hundreds of people enjoying themselves. Then it was back to N57 to tackle some tricky winds on runway 24. Overall, it was a great day. I highly recommend more pilots join us on fly outs as they are always fun and educational no matter your skill level.

Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation
Join us this Sunday, September 7th for a fly-out to York Airport (THV). Bring your appetites and a good pair of walking shoes!
York Airport is located 51nm to the West, which should take us about 30 minutes to fly. Once we arrive, we’ll take a 15-minute walk to the Anchor Down Crabhouse (https://www.anchordowncrabs.com/), where we’ll have lunch before we head back to New Garden.
York is a popular destination for student solo cross-countries, so if you’re looking for a challenge, turn off Foreflight and your panel-mounted GPS and get there the old dead-reckoning way. Plenty of good waypoints to figure out where you are.
Meet at the hangar at 10:30am for briefing and seat assignments, with departure planned for 11:00am. Planes and pilots are always needed.
