Chapter Fly-Out to Tangier Island, VA – Destination Change!

Join us Sunday, June 29th for a fly-out to Tangier Island (TGI). Located ~120 miles, or about one hour an 15 minutes south of N57, Tangier Island is a unique place with a unique history. Located in the Chesapeake Bay, and with a population of around 500 people, the isolation of the place (only accessible via ferry or, in our case, airplane) has generated a unique community with a unique dialect being spoken there.

We’ll do a quick tour of the island before stopping at Lorraine’s Seafood Restaurant for lunch. The weather forecast for Sunday is great (after the intense heat of the past few days), which will allow us to enjoy the walk and work up an appetite.

Meet at the hangar at 8:30am for briefing and seat assignments, with departure planned for 9am. This will give us about an hour to tour the island before the restaurant opens.

Planes and pilots are always needed.
Register here. Pilots, when registering, please specify number of seats and useful load available. Passengers, please provide an accurate weight.
For pilots and passengers that have previously registered, please re-register for the new destination.

EAA240 VMC/IMC Club Meeting – Thursday, June 19th, 6pm

Join us Thursday, June 19th for another IMC & VMC Club session, starting at 6pm. We’ll discus a few scenarios related to both VMC and IMC flying. All Chapter members – pilots and non-pilots – are invited to attend this session led by Robert Huxster. We’ll go through the scenarios and share flight experiences, with the goal being for all of us to learn something new. The session includes the use of EAA National-provided scenarios and videos.

This presentation is sponsored by the FAA Safety Team and WINGs credit will be awarded to the participants.

Help needed Friday and Saturday!

Can you flip pancakes? Can you crack open eggs? Can you write? If yes – you’re qualified and we have a need for your expertise this Saturday as we hold our Pancake Breakfast Fund Raiser and Young Eagle Flights.

We’re a few souls shy for our volunteer teams this weekend and we’re looking for extra help. Join our teams – even for an hour – and help us make Saturday a success for your Chapter, our breakfasters and our kids.

For the Breakfast – we start at 7am preparing the hangar and kitchen and to get the foods readied. We serve our increasingly famous Breakfasts until 1200, and then return the hangar to its operational mode, so we need help with that too. We normally finish the work around 1230. If you can help for a few hours, or all morning, we’d welcome your contribution.

We could also use another pair or two of helping hands Friday around 6pm to get the hangar prepared for the breakfast and to set-up the grills. If you could stop by for a little bit, we’d appreciate it!

For the Young Eagles flights – we could always use more pilots (check with the YE coordinator for requirements before volunteering) and ground crew. FYI, our flying commences at 8:30am and we hope to close at noon. Pilots – please consider helping fly kids, even for a portion of the morning. The Ground Crew needs extra hands (and pens) too. You’ll be glad you did when you see the smiles on the faces of the kids as they return from their flights.

Like to help? Please email us, volunteer and sign up for this weekends final PB & YE event. You’ll be in good company!

And don’t forget to have your family, friends and neighbors join us Saturday for a traditional Airport Breakfast. See you Saturday.

CANCELED! Chapter Fly-Out to Kentmorr, MD (3W3) -VMC/IMC Session at 9am

With the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday calling for low ceilings and rain, we have to cancel our flying plans. We’ll keep Kentmorr as a destination for future fly-outs, as it is a great place to go on a nice summer day.

In lieu of flying, join us Saturday, June 7th for a VMC/IMC Club meeting, starting at 9am. We’ll discuss a couple scenarios and learn a few things about safe flying when things get challenging. Coffee and donuts will be provided!
