Eric Sieracki (FAASTeam Program Manager) will present a local pilot with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, followed by a couple quick VMC/IMC scenarios (if time permits). Jon Martin, New Garden’s Airport Manager, will give us a presentation on his trip to Sun ‘n Fun and how the airport construction projects are going.
You can also renew your 2025 Chapter Membership at the meeting. Visitors & guests are welcome. We’ll be complete no later than 9pm.
A fun and very successful fly-out to Millville Airport was held on Saturday the 29th of March. Two pilots along with six passengers made the 30 minute journey across the Delaware River to the WWII airfield. Another aircraft joined us flying in from Claremont. Lacking more pilots, one passenger was sadly left behind.
The weather was forecast to be clear but windy with a windshear forecast at 2000 feet in all quadrants. Climbing out from N57 without a single bump led to a smooth ride at 3,500 feet with a 50 knot tailwind and a ground speed of 188 knots! It didn’t take long to reach our destination.
We were also joined by a few of our chapter members that decided to drive to the diner to join us for a great meal at Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant.
The Millville Army Airfield Museum is always worth a visit. They have added multiple aircraft and many new displays. It was very educational and entertaining.
Our next fly-out is scheduled for April 12th to Mifflin County Airport at Reedsville, for EAA 518’s breakfast.
With Sunday weather not looking promising, join us Saturday, March 29th, for a trip to Millville Municipal Airport (MIV) in Millville, NJ. A short 30-35 minutes away, the airport is always a popular destination, and home of Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant, where we’ll stop for breakfast. After breakfast we’ll visit the Millville Army Air Field Museum, before heading back to New Garden.
Meet at the EAA hangar at 8:30am for briefing and seat assignment, with a planned departure time of 9m. Check your e-mails for any last-minute departure time changes if weather conditions require it. Pilots, please let us know how many seats you have available when registering. Passengers, make sure you include your weight.

We have a major improvement to the Chapter hangar conference room coming on Thursday March 27th. We are replacing the old stained, stinky carpeting with brand new wall2wall broadloom carpet. To prepare for this we’re organizing a work party on Wednesday evening March 26th to move and stack all the chairs in the hangar area as well as moving some small tables and shifting the file cabinet. BSA will be moving out the simulator as well.
If you are available please consider joining us at a work-party on Wednesday March 26th at 6:00pm to tote and stack all the conference room chairs. If we have between six and eight people it should take only an hour and we will avoid injuries from carrying too many chairs. Donuts and coffee will be provided.
Please also consider coming back on Friday afternoon at 600pm to return the chairs to the conference room and set them up on the beautiful new carpet.
Join us Saturday, March 8th, for a trip to Greenwood Lake Airport (4N1) in West Milford, NJ. About one hour away, the airport is home to a Lockheed Constellation (story here), which we’ll take a look at after we arrive. After that, we’ll have brunch at the West Milford Airport Diner (menu on their Facebook page), before heading back to New Garden.

Joking aside, what a great start to our regular meetings! We were joined by Jim Boxmeyer, who had an excellent presentation on composite lay-up and materials.
Jim started with a practical demonstration in the hangar, where he showed us how a practical composite structure can be put together using simple tools and techniques available to the average builder.
Once the demonstration piece was prepped and left to cure, we moved to the meeting room for a brief chapter business presentation to the membership.
We were also joined by our three 2024 scholarship recipients (two of which have already taken and passed their checkrides), who thanked the membership and the chapter for the opportunity they were given and discussed their flight training experiences and future career plans.
After that, Jim continued with his presentation, including a show and tell of different materials and construction techniques. We were quite impressed by beams using carbon fiber rods in a truss configuration, embedded in a foam matrix. You think you’ve seen everything in carbon fiber? Well, we got to see a few carbon fiber nails, driven into a 2×4.
After the presentation we went back to the hangar to take a look at the finished and cured demonstration piece. This was also a great time for a Q&A session, before calling it a night around 9pm.
