February meeting – Flying in the Soup

Join us Saturday, February 8th at 11am for a new chapter event – Flying in the Soup! 

Bring a pot of your best soup (and an IMC story, if you have it) and join the competition! Or bring your appetite and be one of the tasters/judges. We’ll be ready to serve the food by 11:30, with judging occurring throughout the food service.

Following the food we’ll hold a very brief and informal chapter business session, updating members on what’s happening with the chapter. We’ll have an ‘open floor’ session for members to share their views and desires for the chapter, before wrapping up no later than 1pm.
 

NOTE: this meeting replaces the regular Monday meeting.

We hope you’ll join us for a fun and relaxed event, good foods, information sharing and camaraderie.

Great start to the 2025 fly-out season

Despite the very cold weather, six aircraft and fourteen pilots and passengers, including two of our youngest members (future aviator material right there) arrived at Hammonton Municipal Airport (N81) after a smooth, uneventful flight. The wintry landscape below us was a beautiful sight to admire from a warm airplane.

Bud, our flight leader for this event had made a reservation at the Apron Café so we were quickly seated after our arrival. Plenty of aviation and non-aviation conversations took place before and during breakfast, while we all enjoyed the great food and great service. The café is definitely a place worth coming back to!

After our late breakfast we braved the cold weather again an uneventful (if a bit bumpy) flight back to New Garden. Thank you to all the pilots who joined us for this event, despite the cold – we couldn’t do this without you! We put big smiles on everyone’s faces.

Mark your calendars for our next fly-out, scheduled for Saturday, February 15th. We’ll be going to Bloomsburg Municipal Airport (N13), home of Columbia Aircraft Services, to join EAA Chapter 1641 for their Chili Cook-Off. They do welcome outside competition, so feel free to bring a chili with you!

Chapter Fly-out to Hammonton, NJ (N81)

Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation

Join us Saturday, January 25th for a trip to Hammonton Municipal Airport (N81) in Hammonton, NJ. A short 30 to 45 minute trip away (depending on your route), it’s a good opportunity to practice your Class B airspace and radio skills. Once there, we’ll have breakfast at the Apron Café before heading back to New Garden.

Meet at the EAA hangar at 9:30am for briefing and seat assignment, with a planned departure time of 10am. Check your e-mails for any last-minute departure time changes if weather conditions require it.
Pilots, please let us know how many seats you have available when registering. Passengers, make sure you include your weight.

As the date approaches, any event updates are provided by the Flight Leader and sent in emails, posted to our web site, as well as Facebook and Twitter. Please check for updates or changes.

First meeting of 2025!

It was a chili day to fly! On a cold morning, with fresh snow on the ground, chapter members gathered at the hangar for our first meeting of the year (albeit informal in nature) and our chili and cornbread competition. We had quite a few choices to sample from and at the end, when the votes were tallied, the two winners were announced: Brian Wheeler won the award for the best chili, and Bud Swenson won the award for best corn bread.

It was also a good time to recognize Mike Parry, our outgoing president, for all his years of service to the chapter. Dan Gutierrez, our incoming president, offered him a plaque and a memorable gift as a thank you for his efforts and dedication.
