What’s Next?

Here’s what’s coming up for members of EAA Chapter 240

A lot is happening at EAA Chapter 240 as we get into the Fall and Winter months. Be sure to add the events below to your personal calendar so you won’t miss out.

This Saturday we have our final 2024 Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagle Flights, followed by a FAASTeam presentation (open to the public) in the Chapter Meeting Room – a full day of aviation! Please bring along family, friends and neighbors as we celebrate the season together with a fine breakfast and even better company! New 2024 Chapter members especially welcomed.

We also have Chapter Board Elections happening in November, where you can consider joining the Chapter Officers and contribute to Chapter operations. More information will be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, your active support, engagement and contribution to these events – planned for you by the Chapter Events Team – is welcomed.

Brief Business Update (September):
~ Three new members joined during September – welcome!
~ Paid Membership count stands at 178
~ Flew Boy Scout group of Young Eagles in September
~ Strong overall financials continue, balance of $25,000
~ Board is considering restarting Flight Training Scholarships following strong overall balance plus donation from EAA National
~ Notes of Chapter Board Meetings and Financial Summaries are posted in the ‘Members Only’ area of the web site

~ Saturday, October 5th – Chapter Fly-Out to New London GON for breakfast
~ Monday, October 7th, 7pm – Membership Meeting, Tom Kenney presenting on his RV Project build
~ Saturday, October 12th – Chapter Fly-Out to Cape May and the Naval Air Museum
~ Sunday, October 27th – Chapter Fly-Out to Penn Valley KSEH, and lunch
~ Monday, November 4th, Fly-Mart – buy, sell and exchange your aviation surplus! Followed by…..
~ Monday, November 4th, 7pm – Membership Meeting and Elections for 2025-2027
~ Saturday, December 7th – Christmas & Holiday Party

A reminder that all Chapter activities are created, prepared for and executed by VOLUNTEERS. Your active support and participation in Chapter events is welcomed.

Enjoyable Morning at the Chapter

It’s great when it all comes together so well.

We asked for additional help with our last Pancake Breakfast of the 2024 season, both on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Our members responded. We had 9 volunteers Friday helping with set-up, and had 23 volunteers preparing, cooking, serving, cleaning throughout the morning. It was good to see several new members join the effort and we were able to provide experience in pancake flipping, egg cracking and cooking, coffee brewing, sausage cooking, table cleaning and cashier roles through the morning – all good experience for our 2025 season and expanding our Breakfast Team number. It was all fun too!

Thanks to our volunteers who served over 130 breakfasts (we had to send out for additional supplies mid-morning!). And while the income is always helpful ($900+ yesterday) , the community spirit we generate both with our membership base but also in the local area and airport is of the same value and importance to us. Well done Team!

Cancelling Young Eagle Flights

Cancelling Young Eagle Flights – Saturday, September 28th

Sadly, low cloud ceilings and rain will prevent us offering safe flights for kids tomorrow and we’re cancelling this aspect of our morning at EAA Chapter 240.

Our ‘Increasingly Famous’ Pancake Breakfast is still on however and we look forward to serving our very special breakfast from 8am. Bring the family, see you there!

Sunset on the Deck

A beautiful sunset brought the Chapter summer season to a close, with a strong turnout of members enjoying food, drink and the company of aviators, family and friends alike. It was good to meet several of our newer Chapter members too – welcome!

Thanks to those who contributed food – and we had lots! Thanks also to those who helped with the set-up and breakdown.

We had no Business discussed last evening, but the Board had prepared and distributed copies of the latest Business Report (also available on the web site) and a memo seeking additional volunteered help for our events and filling the Communication role. Our November Board Elections will be announced shortly.

The Chapter Fall programs include a VMC/IMC Members Meeting this Saturday at 9am. our next Chapter meeting Monday, October 7th, 7pm – with Tom Kenney, his RV Project reprise. We also have several Fly-Outs including this Saturday (7th) and – of course – our final 2024 Pancake Breakfast and Young Eagle flights on Saturday September 28th.

These can only happen with the support of the membership and we look forward to seeing you through the Fall!
