With several Board members traveling we did not have an Executive Board Meeting in September or October. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21st and members are always encouraged to attend.
Chapter Fly-Out – Invitation Fly Out to William T. Piper Memorial Airport (KLHV), Saturday, November 4th
ATTENTION! – All Piper Fans (especially)!!
No, not that kind of Piper!! Join us for a visit to the Piper Aviation Museum . The museum is restoring an L4J. And what’s a Piper Flitfire? Did you say ‘Piper X-planes’?! And more! The museum is located in the former Piper Engineering Building on the field. Depending on your interest level, it’s a 1-2 hour tour.
Even if you’ve only seen a Piper airplane, this museum is will-worth the visit! Admission is $10.00 ($8.00 for Military & Seniors 55↑). For lunch plans, it’s a 0.5 mile walk to The Village Tavern (Italian). Or, depending, a 1.0+ mile walk to a plethora of additional lunch opportunities. We’ll decide based on weather and how much time we have.

Meet at the EAA240 hangar at 8:30am. Flight Time is 1 hour or so. There is a parking ramp next to the museum, at the west end of the runway. Brief and seat assignments at the EAA240 hangar at 8:30am Wheels up at 9:00am This flight is weather and TFR dependent, but it looks like the President is going to Rehoboth this Saturday, so that will cut us some slack.
Passengers are requested to include their weight when signing up.

The Holiday season 2023 is fast approaching, so it’s time for the Annual EAA Chapter 240 Holiday Party!
So, join us Saturday, December 2nd at 1pm, as we gather to celebrate the Christmas and holiday season and the start of a whole new year. We’ll be serving up traditional turkey, ham and beef and some desserts along with coffee, tea and soda’s. We ask you to bring a traditional main course side-dish please, to add to our table. It’s BYOB too!
Please plan on joining with your Chapter buddies and families, and with our friends from the Airport staff, the Flight School and from Brandywine Soaring.

The party replaces our December Monthly Membership Meeting. No presentations, no guest speakers. But we will have raffle prizes donated by your Board Members and by the Airport (free time on the new Flight Sim-wow!).
This should be a fun event and a good kick-off to your holiday season. We look forward to seeing you and yours at the Chapter Hangar, Saturday December 2nd, at 1pm. Remember to bring a seasonal dish please!

As you can see in the images below, and thanks to our presenters Jon Martin, Dan Plunkett and Jeff Geist our Welding Workshop was completed Saturday morning, with 16 members attending. After a safety briefing, each had an opportunity to view a demonstration and to have hands-on experience of welding, both TIG and gas-based, guided by our presenters.
Our collective thanks to Jon, Dan and Jeff for sharing their expertise, equipment and time. It was an excellent session, and feedback was very positive. The session ended with pizza lunch and lots of Q&A.
Our next Workshops (riveting and fabric covering) are detailed here, with a few places remaining open.
It has been suggested (at the Membership Meting last Monday) that we arrange an additional Workshop on fiberglass, and we are currently researching how best to accomplish this. More to come.

As a reminder the Riveting Workshop is intended to introduce, describe and demonstrate the basic and different riveting methods employed when assembling an airframe. Preparation, measuring, marking, recommended tools, testing and assembly will be covered and demonstrated. Members will have an opportunity to rivet using test panels.
Tom Kenney leads the class, sharing his expertise he gained and used in the assembly of his RV airframe.
The class begins at 8:30 Saturday October 21st at the Chapter Hangar and runs through to noon. If there’s interest we can organize pizza lunch following the Workshop.

We’re planning another joint IMC & VMC Club session on this date, starting at 10am, and all members – pilots and non-pilots – are invited to attend.
As a reminder, the goal is to meet informally and to exchange members experiences, learnings and best practices in our flying. The session includes the use of EAA National-provided scenarios and videos. Our past sessions have resulted in lively and helpful information exchanges. More information here.
We’ll invite student-pilots and CFI’s from the Flight School to join us.
We’ll keep it light and informal, over coffee and cookies.
I hope you can join us at the Chapter Hangar Saturday 28th for the session led by Bob Huxster. The session is open to all Chapter members, pilots and student pilots.
The 15 members have been notified of their success in securing a position in the workshop, if you haven’t heard from us we’ll hold your name for a future event.
Workshop starts promptly at 08:30am Saturday October 7th, and ends at 12:30. We can arrange pizza lunch if there’s interest.
Jeff Geist has loaned the Chapter helmets for all, and we have required materials onsite.
