Membership Meeting & Cook-Out, with Guest Speaker

BIG changes to our regular monthly program. We’re dropping the Business Review we normally present, and instead will provide the business information to the membership via email and our Chapter web site. This means we can dedicate more time to our guest speakers! Yeh! Videos will be presented and we’re re-introducing the fun 50/50 drawing at each meeting. We’re aiming for a more relaxed, informal and more fun time.

AND, for Monday May 1st, we’re starting with a Cook-Out at 6pm and the Chapter Hangar. We ask you bring a side dish or dessert item or a $5 donation. We’ll supply a chicken dinner and soft drinks. 

Our new format Monthly Meeting commences after we’ve cleaned up, around 7pm.

 We have a special topic and TWO guest speakers for the April meeting:

Aviation expands our horizons and allows us to visit new places. With a passport and a bit of preparation, you can expand that your flying world across international borders too! 
Join us as Michael Bush and Michael Cutler explain the “ins and outs” of flying to other countries in North America and find out how you can experience the excitement of new places, faces, and airspaces!

Visitors & guests welcomed. We’ll be complete around 9pm.

Chapter Visit to Hagley

 Chapter Event – Invitation

Chapter members have been invited to tour the historic and fully operational Machine Shop at the Hagley Museum DE, Sunday April 30th, commencing at 9:30am.



Covering 235 acres, the Hagley Museum is home to the first du Pont family house, powder yards and 19th century machine shop. There is an abundance of history, presented via live demonstrations. The tour will be conducted by our own John Smoyer, who is a Docent at the museum. John will demonstrate the use of water and steam power, belt-driven lathes and other heavy duty equipment, tools and process used by the du Pont mechanics in the development and production of gunpowder. The group is then able to visit the beautiful and historic main DuPont house, museum and gardens.

EAA National – Learn to Fly Week

EAA Announces I – May 15 to 20, 2023

Aspiring aviators will have the opportunity to discover multiple pathways to becoming a pilot as EAA presents its inaugural Learn to Fly Week on May 15-20.

Beginning May 15th, expert flight instructors and representatives from various aviation organizations will present free, interactive webinars. These webinars will cover topics from starting flight training, saving time and money in flight training, preparing for the FAA written exam, to passing the checkride, and so much more. While the live showing of these presentations will be open to the public, the recordings will be archived for EAA members to view at their convenience. 

Flight Instruction

Learn to Fly Week will conclude on Saturday, May 20, with Flying Start events hosted at chapters across the country. EAA’s Flying Start program allows EAA chapters to welcome, encourage, and educate new aviation enthusiasts about the fun, freedom, and accessibility of personal aviation in their local area. Following a short presentation about learning to fly, attendees will be offered a free introductory Eagle Flight to experience the spirit of aviation firsthand.

“Becoming a pilot is a dream for many, but few know where to start their journey. Learn to Fly Week was created to help encourage aspiring pilots to take action and begin the pilot training process,” said David Leiting, EAA Eagles Program Manager. “Our goal is to show attendees how accessible achieving their dream actually is.” Leiting also added that inspiration from this event stemmed from packed forums at the Learn to Fly Center at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, as well as the success of other EAA virtual events like Homebuilders Week and Virtual Ultralight Days. 

Combining the educational forums from the Learn to Fly Center and the connections and inspiration found at Flying Start events, EAA Learn to Fly Week is the latest effort in the ongoing effort to help aspiring pilots achieve their dream of flight.
