Sad to report the passing of EAA240 member Don Schaffer, who died this past week.
Don, along with wife Mary Lou, were EAA240 regulars and enjoyed the company of fellow members at many of our Chapter events and Fly-Outs.
Don and member John Smoyer jointly built and flew a Just Escapade airplane, with Don also constructing and flying an Arion Lightening composite plane. The two had been colleagues and very close friends for many years, with shared interest in skiing, scuba diving and travel, and much more.

Mary Lou, via John, has asked me to share the following information regarding Don’s arrangements:
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a funeral service at 11:00AM on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. Burial will be private.
Following the funeral, there will be a luncheon at the Mendenhall Inn, 323 Kennet Pike (PA Route 52). If you plan to attend the luncheon, Mary Lou requests that you RSVP by Tuesday, Sept. 27 to John Smoyer, mox499@yahoo.com.
The family asks that no flowers be sent. Memorial donations in Donald’s name may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, https://www.stjude.org/donate OR the Kennett Area Food Cupboard, https://kacsimpact.org/support/.
Don’s obituary may be viewed here.
Again, our thoughts and condolences are with Mary Lou, the family and friends. Don will be sorely missed by all, including his fellow members at EAA240.
Mike Parry, President EAA Chapter 240
