Lights are dimming….

Our next Chapter Membership Gathering is tomorrow (Saturday Feb 1st) and, this evening, lights will dim as EAA240 members’ ovens drain the power supply as they cook and prepare their bacon dishes ready for sampling at tomorrows get-together. We gather at 11-ish, with Bacon Lunch at noon, followed by a very brief and informal Membership Update held in the kitchen.

Like our very successful Chili Fest last month, all bacon dishes will be tasted, enjoyed, assessed and voted-on. The best will receive a prize! Oink!!

We hope you’ll join us for a fun Chapter happening, lunch, with information sharing and camaraderie. As always, visitors & guests most welcome.

Membership Gathering – Saturday – Lunch!

The second of our informal Lunchtime Chapter Meetings happens Saturday, February 1st. We’ll start around 11am and wrap up by 2pm.

Join us for some hangar flying and this lunchtime bacon feast. Please bring along any dish that includes bacon, which your fellow members can taste and enjoy.

Bacon cookies were definitely a well-liked item last time, and we’re all looking forward to treating our taste buds to new and novel ways of serving bacon. And on the topic of bacon, do you know what your Bacon number is? Do a bit of research and share it with the rest of us.

Also, please bring your best hangar flying stories to share with the rest of us. We can all learn from each other’s experiences.

Following the bacon feast, we’ll hold a brief and informal membership meeting to update on key chapter matters. As always, your feedback and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Bring along family, guests and visitors and join us Saturday, February 1st at 11am.

Please note that we will not have a meeting on Monday, February 4th.

Sugar Bun Feast!

The Chapter group had a great flying day Sunday, with no trace of the weather that forced the postponement on Saturday. Three aircraft and 10 participants signed-up, but one aircraft unfortunately had to cancel last minute. This didn’t deter us, so two planes with seven people took off for a leisurely and scenic one-hour flight to Easton airport in Maryland.

On landing, we took a few minutes to admire the F-104 displayed on the ramp, before heading into the restaurant for a very enjoyable breakfast. While nobody thought it would be wise to devour an entire sugar bun on their own, on top of the main course, we all got the chance to sample them.

There were plenty of aviation discussions around the table, revolving around pilot experiences, high vs low wing and transitioning from one to the other and observing other pilots’ landings. On our way out, we stopped at the pilot shop and took a look at the various items – with the aviation bumper stickers receiving close scrutiny. While on the ramp, the aviation conversations continued for a bit longer while we waited for some of the departure backlog to clear. The great weather had brought in multiple other aircraft and there was a bit of a traffic jam on the departure end of the runway. 

The flight back to New Garden was uneventful, with just a few bumps that didn’t bother us. It was a great fly-out on what looked like another bad weather weekend – but we held on and we were rewarded with a gorgeous day to be in the air. Thank you everyone, and see you at the next fly-out!

Fly-Out Date Change

Weather forces us to move our weekend fly-out to SUNDAY, January 26th.

Join us for a 65-mile scenic trip down the Chesapeake Bay to Easton Airport (ESN) in Maryland. It’s a class D airport, home of the Sugar Buns Airport Cafe – they claim to have more variety of Eggs Benedict than anyone on the Shore, plus their famous all butter sugar buns and Smith Island style cakes, among other dishes.

If you need any pilot paraphernalia or souvenirs, the pilot shop in the terminal is a good stop on the way in or out.

Meet at the EAA 240 hangar at 0830 SUNDAY for seat assignments and briefs. Wheels up at 0845.

We welcome pilots, planes, and hearty appetites!

First Fly-Out 2020 – lots more to come!

The clouds lifted on Saturday for the fly out to the Flying W Airport and Resort for breakfast.  

Four aircraft left New Garden to enjoy a flight in the unseasonably warm temperatures.  Some trekked around the Philadelphia Class B airspace, some got permission to fly straight through, and everyone enjoyed a great meal at the Paddi Wagon Airport Restaurant.
