EAA240 Chapter Annual General Meeting – Monday November 4th
Our Chapter AGM and Membership Meeting is next Monday and will include the following agenda items:
~ Hangar Flying, coffee and cookies – from 6pm ~ Meeting commences – 7pm ~ Chapter Business agenda items, review of 2019 ~ Voting for Chapter Board positions for 2020 to 2022 – Bert Shipman ~ Guest Speaker – FAA’s Bill Doyle will detail the FAA WINGS Program ~ We’ll wrap around 9.15pm
We hope you’ll join us for a fun evening, information sharing and camaraderie. Visitors & guests most welcome.
Sad to say we have to postpone the planned Fly-Out tomorrow (Oct 26th) due to a shortage of aircraft. There was a good deal of interest in the event too, but insufficient planes/pilots. Sorry!
We’ll look to reschedule at another time.

Chapter Events & Happenings A Successful Day for the Chapter – Saturday, October 19th 2019
Beautiful weather brought out many to our two Chapter events yesterday.
If you and your family/friends joined us (as we’d asked) and enjoyed a great EAA240 Pancake Breakfast – thank you!
We served 125 breakfasts, a good way to end the season, with many smiling faces and attracting many compliments. And thanks of course to the strong team of EAA240 volunteers who on Friday and Saturday stepped up to make the breakfast event successful. A great team effort and fun for all those involved, securing a much-needed boost to our funds as we close out on the year’s fundraising activities.
Fifty five (!!) kids took to the air yesterday as the Chapter Young Eagles program completed it’s successful year, with many happy faces and thankful parents, all taking advantage of the fantastic weather. The EAA pilots and ground crew ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Special thanks to our pilots who donate their skills, expertise, time and aircraft to the cause. Much appreciated.

Every two years we are required to seek nominations and then to vote on candidates for four Chapter Board positions;
President Vice President Treasurer Chapter Secretary
Please consider volunteering for these positions, or nominating others for the role, with their approval.
We will hold the election as part of our Monthly Membership Meeting of Monday November 4th. The election process on the evening will be managed by Bert Shipman, who will announce the results to the assembled membership.
Nominations should be sent now to Bert at berthshipman@gmail.com, or 610.247.2123, to be received no later than Monday October 28th.
Members are asked to actively participate in the elections that will help set our course for the years ahead for this unique and great Chapter.
EAA240 has our final Pancake Breakfast of 2019 for all the family this Saturday.
Freshly cooked foods, our NEW MENU, great company – plus airplanes at a unique airport!
You’ll be eating breakfast Saturday – why not with us?!
Join us as pilots and aviators fly-in from across the region to join our local and loyal breakfasters for one of the best tasting breakfasts served-up at any airport!
We also offer FREE airplane rides for Kids – our Young Eagles national program. Weather permitting, we’ll start at 9am, complete at noon. Restrictions apply and registration is recommended, more details here, or at our web page. The weather looks good for Saturday, we’re expecting a big turnout!

Hardly an empty seat at EAA240’s October Membership Meeting as Bob Huxter provided a view of how he utilizes Foreflight, both as a flight planning aid but also in the cockpit, piloting his Cessna 172. Bob provided examples of the capabilities and flexibility of the product and service as he plotted courses, amended them, added weather and demonstrated much more for use in both VFR and IFR flying.
Bob’s presentation was extremely well done and produced much discussion and interaction amongst the audience on the many features that could be deployed while planning and in flying.
Our thanks to Bob for preparing and providing this valuable insight. It made for a great topic for the October EAA240 Monthly Meeting.
A Chapter member recorded her experience getting a friend into the cockpit of an aircraft at one of EAA240’s Young Eagles – Free Flights for Kids days.
“Through the Young Eagles program in partnership with @eaa240 I got my Little Sister (@bbbsdelaware) [Big Brothers Big Sisters, DE] in the cockpit to co-pilot her very first flight this summer! She later messaged her boyfriend who was away at camp, “Flew a plane today,” like a little badass ????✈️? At 14, it’s a wonderful age to get a teen up there and expand her horizons of what is possible to pursue as a young lady.
The Young Eagles program at New Garden Flying Field makes aviation extremely accessible to youth. EAA Young Eagles Program was created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program was launched in 1992, Volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 2 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries. Pilots at the event explained more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety before every flight.
After the flight, she received a certificate making her an official Young Eagle. Her name was also entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI. The Logbook is also accessible via www.youngeagles.org. In addition to the Certificate, she was given a flight Logbook with an access code for a complete free online Flight Training course offered by Sporty’s”.
The EAA240 2019 Christmas & Holiday Party is coming up soon – just weeks away.
So, you might want to get this date on your family calendar. This is our most popular, most attended seasonal members and family event.
Join us at 5:30pm Saturday December 7th, at our very special Chapter Hangar. The festivities commence immediately, food service starts at 6pm, and we’ll be looking to wrap-up at 9pm.
No presentations, no speeches, just fun and frivolity! There will be prizes and music!
Please bring a favorite holiday family dish and a beverage of your choice. We’ll have turkey, soda’s and water on-hand. We’ll also have Vegan dishes. Donations can be made in lieu of a dish.!
